Two Trees Tilting Toward the Sun

This poem was inspired by the longstanding partnerships found in nature, animals, and people who together, will always find the sun.

Two Trees Tilting Toward the Sun

When I first planted myself beside you
Who would have known what we’d become?

Simply, steadily
We’ve added ring after ring to our core
Gazed out with wonder
As the forest widens around us
Standing strong with our roots intertwined.

Gratefully, gracefully
We’ll move through the seasons of life
Find beauty in bare winter branches and
Rejoice in the soft colors of spring
Laughing as our leaves shake off the rain.

Calmly, confidently
We’ll grow higher, until we can see across the forest
This great life laid out before us.
And each morning we’ll wake side-by-side to soak in the light
Like two trees tilting toward the sun.
